I created The Writing Momentum Circle because I know that feeling.
Sometimes you’re stuck in the manuscript. Sometimes you’re in your own head. Sometimes you know what you need to do, but you’re struggling to find your way back to the work.
This is a small, facilitated space for writers who want consistent support, dedicated writing time, meaningful conversation, and a group that actually gets to know their project.
Not every kind of stuck needs the same solution.

Why this writing group is different
This is not a traditional critique group, writing class, or word-count challenge.
The Circle sits between an instructor-led workshop and a peer writing group.
You get the continuity of the same small cohort for four months, along with active facilitation, accountability, guided story exploration, protected manuscript time, and recurring sessions with Beth Barany.
Six writers, not an audience.
We’re purposely keeping the Circle to a maximum of 6 writers, plus the peer facilitator.
Over four months, the people in the room have the chance to actually know your project. They remember your characters, understand what you’ve been wrestling with, and see how the work is moving.

The first Writing Momentum Circle is primarily for unpublished fiction writers who are actively working on a novel and serious about moving it forward.
Our first cohort will focus mainly on science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction, with activities shaped around the genres and projects represented in the group.
This Circle will be a good fit if you are ready to show up consistently, participate thoughtfully, support the other writers in the room, and stay open to possibilities without trying to prescribe someone else’s story.

I’ve completed a novel and I’m currently writing an adult romantasy novel. I’m an avid fiction reader, and I’m the creator, host, and producer of the Beyond the Rough Draft podcast, where I talk with writers about what happens behind the writing: doubts, creative blocks, routines, resilience, creative decisions, and the work of actually finishing.
I have a BA in Linguistics, experience as an English teacher, more than 14 years of professional experience across communications, coordination, administration, and creative support, and I provide editorial support for Beth Barany’s Writers Fun Zone blog and How To Write The Future podcast.
I’m not here as a developmental editor or an advanced craft instructor. I’m in the Circle as both facilitator and fellow writer.
My role isn’t to tell you how your story should be written. It’s to create the structure, ask useful questions, keep the conversation moving, and help you leave each session with a clearer sense of what comes next.

Approximately once a month, Beth Barany, founder of Edit Lab for science fiction and fantasy writers, will join the Circle.
Beth is an experienced writing teacher, book coach, and creativity coach for writers, and her sessions will respond to what the group actually needs. They may include craft Q&A, story development, revision, publishing questions, or conversations emerging from the projects in the room.
FAQ
Is this a critique group?
No. The Circle focuses on discussion, exploration, accountability, and helping writers move their own work forward. We are not routinely critiquing one another’s manuscripts.
Is this a course?
No. There is no fixed curriculum. The focus is on your own writing, your project, and what the group needs as the Circle develops.
Is this therapy?
No. We may talk honestly about the emotional realities of writing, but the Circle is focused on supporting the creative process. Each participant is responsible for their own self-care.
Do I need to be published?
No. The Circle is primarily designed for unpublished fiction writers who are actively working on a novel.
What genres is the first Circle for?
The first cohort will focus on science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction.
What happens after I apply?
