Beth Barany works with aspiring and dedicated genre novelists who desire to share their stories with the world.

Through her live and home-study courses and coaching programs, she helps them overcome confusion and overwhelm about where to begin and how to stay the course.

She works one-on-one and in groups to help them write, publish, and market their books.

An experienced independently published novelist and nonfiction author, Beth guides students through planning the novel, writing it, editing it, and the marketing and publishing of their fiction.

Beth has done so in two of her favorite places in the world (so far): the San Francisco Bay Area and Paris, France.

She's also a speaker, teacher, and workshop leader and has presented in Italy, Boston, Washington D.C., Seattle, and Los Angeles.

Based in Oakland, California, across the sparkly bay from San Francisco, and next to Berkeley, as a novelist, Beth writes magical tales of romance and adventure to transport readers to new worlds where anything is possible.

Certified as a Creativity Coach, an EFL-instructor, and NLP Practitioner, Beth is passionate about helping writers and authors get their message out into the world, gain confidence in their self-expression, and discover how they can get noticed and sell books to their readers.

  • I was determined to get published in my early 20s. I finally did get my first journalism article published in the Paris Free Voice while I was living in the City of Lights in the early 1990s. It only took four tries and five rewrites!

  • I've lived in Quebec, where I learned French, and in Paris, France, twice, where I perfected my French.

  • I started a Masters in a Paris university, yes, in French. Topic: The History of Paris. (Or course!)

  • From working in journalism for 15 years, I switched my focus to fiction, and now write young adult fantasy and sweet paranormal romance.

  • In my off hours, I enjoy walking, running, traveling, and watching movies with my husband, and playing with our cat, Leo.

  • I'm married to singer/song-writer and bestselling author of The Torah Codes, Ezra Barany.

Today I’m an award-winning novelist and write in three genres (young adult adventure fantasy, paranormal romance, and science fiction mystery), and run a successful business as a coach and consultant for authors.

Two of my nonfiction books for writers have been bestsellers, and my webinar on book blog tours has received mostly 5-star reviews and has over 100 students.

I run an online school for fiction writers and have had over 500 students take one of our courses.

My husband, Ezra Barany, is a best-selling novelist, and writes under two names. Every month, we generate a portion of our revenue from book and product royalties.

But as you can imagine, it wasn’t always this way.

Flashback to nineteen years ago… After always reaching and achieving my academic goals as a teen and an adult (valedictorian; fluent in French by 17; got into UC Berkeley), I’d just gotten rejected from graduate school in journalism. I was 30.

What was I going to do with my life? I was working as an assistant manager at Blockbuster Video (remember such stores?), and was reeling from confusion, lack of direction, and felt unmoored from life. I had no clear direction. I was lost.

When I finally got up the courage to reread my application to graduate school in journalism (I only applied to one school), I saw that I’d written there in black and white that the deep reason why I wanted to go to grad school and study journalism was because I wanted to be a novelist.

I read that and it hit me. Duh! No wonder they didn’t let me in. And, if that’s what I said I wanted, well, I had better get to it. I realized it was time for action. I realized the only way to be a writer was to write.

But where to begin? Such an overwhelming task. I did what a book nerd like me would do in the pre-internet days: I went to the library and read the local activities announcement board. Right away, I found a group that met at a local café and joined it. I started my first novel on the very first meeting.

Through that group, and through another I joined soon after (and where I met my husband, bestselling author Ezra Barany – more on him later), I got on track and started working on that first novel.

Fast forward to 2017: I’ve written 15 novels, 3 nonfiction books, and hundreds of articles, and have self-published 8 novels. I’ve won a grand prize on one of my novels and was a finalist in several contests for other novels. I have 2-3 books in process at any given time, and I make time to write while running my growing business.

I’m so excited to be bringing my knowledge, passion, and vision to you!

Creativity is our birthright and serves to bring us joy and helps us to heal from pain. Manifesting our creativity takes courage and patience. Courage to face the unknown that lies within and to manifest that in the here and now; and, patience to allow our art to unfold and to mature. Kindness to oneself, and joy in the process are also necessary to the act of creativity.

These same qualities apply to the coaching and teaching process. I am here to listen, guide, ask gentle, probing questions and cheer. The synergy and support gained from working with a coach or guide or group is an immeasurable blessing. We do not need to be alone in our creative journeys. May you find strength and guidance through support and community.

Beth listens, asks questions and doesn't judge your answers. Each of us has within the knowledge and wisdom that we seek.
